Abstract
It is well known that earthquakes are primarily composed of primary (P) waves and secondary (S) waves. These waves are classified as body waves. P waves travel approximately 1.7 times faster than the S waves. Furthermore, S waves can be decomposed into the SV waves and the SH waves. Actually, it is practically useful to separate body waves into the combination of P waves and the SV waves (so called "P-SV problem"), and the SH waves alone (so called "SH problem"). In addition, there are other types of seismic waves such as Rayleigh waves and Love waves, which are classified as surface wave contrasted with body wave.
